The Republic of New Vanguardia is a sovereign country. It is approaching 25 years since the end of the Crisis Era. A new dawn breaks for New Vanguardia! Experience it for yourself!
New Vanguardia is a game, but a serious game. It is a kind of model government game, exploring a non-traditional form of government in a new country that is moving to multi-party elections. It is a social game, where the primary action is negotiation between players, not min-maxing or optimal strategy.
Players will take the role of pressure groups within the State Assembly of New Vanguardia. You will discuss and decide political issues in weekly meetings. If elected to lead a department, you’ll have the ability to pursue projects and develop agencies. And, of course, each group is trying to raise its stock so that they’ll get more people into government when the next election rolls around.
The New Vanguardia game will primarily be played over Discord and/or other online forums. You will need to be able to converse by text in English in order to play, as well as be able to attend most game meetings. You’ll also need an email address.
To start playing the game, you will need to create your pressure group. You will choose a name for your group, choose a base province, choose an ideology, and choose a party. The name is your choice, as is the base province. The choice of ideology and party are linked. You must choose one of the 27 ideologies from the Political Ideology Matrix (see below), but it cannot be more than 2 steps away (NESW+UD) from the ideology of your chosen party. (Ideologies and parties can shift later.)
Eligible political parties:
- General People’s Party — Ideology: laborism (welfare socialism). The current ruling party, based in the labor movement.
- Constitutionalist Party — Ideology: progressivism (welfare capitalism). Seeks a strong economy, favored by financiers.
- Party of the January 31 Movement — Ideology: revolutionism (utopian socialism). Committed to pluralistic revolution, historical party.
- Public Interest Party — Ideology: localism (isolationist socialism). Supports free speech, favored by intellectuals.
- Science and Industry Party — Ideology: developmentalism (humanitarian capitalism). Promotes innovation, favored by entrepreneurs.
