State holidays: The state supports two main holidays. Foundation Day on September 30 celebrates the founding of the state. Liberation Day on December 21 celebrates the end of the Crisis Era in 2001 and the beginning of the General People’s Party regime.

History of New Vanguardia

• 30 September 1987 — Founding of New Vanguardia. The New Vanguardia Movement, led by the Eight Heroes, establishes the Republic of New Vanguardia.
• 20 April 1993 — Beginning of the Crisis Era. This was the beginning of the so-called “Crisis Regime”.
• 21 December 2001 — Liberation from the Crisis Regime. On this day, the General People’s Party assumed power in New Vanguardia and declared an end to the Crisis Era.
